What is rakeback, mathematically?
Rakeback pays back a fixed share of the house edge on every wager, independent of outcome. Formally: rakeback earned = turnover × house edge × rakeback rate. Because it applies to the edge rather than the stake, it scales with volume, not with a single deposit — there is no ceiling and no clock counting down.
Rakeback or a deposit bonus — which has the higher expected value?
It is a function of turnover, not a fixed answer. A deposit bonus pays a one-time amount you must wager through before it clears, and that clearing cost eats into the headline figure. Rakeback pays a permanent discount on every future bet. Below the turnover where the two lines cross, the bonus wins; above it, rakeback wins by a growing margin, because the bonus is capped and rakeback is not.

Why does house edge move the result so much?
Rakeback is a cut of the edge, not of the bet. At a 1% edge, 10% rakeback returns 0.1% of turnover. At a 4% edge, the same 10% rate returns 0.4% of turnover — four times the cash, but you are also conceding four times the edge to earn it. Game selection changes the rakeback outcome as much as the rate itself does.
